About Edward R. Hagen
Dr. Edward Hagen is a fellowship-trained colorectal surgeon on medical staff at Munson Medical Center. Dr. Hagen has a special interest in treating rectal cancer as well as utilizing Enhanced Recovery Pathways to improve patient outcomes. Enhanced Recovery Pathways were developed to improve outcomes and decrease recovery times after colorectal surgery.
"At Munson Healthcare, we are utilizing the most up-to-date pathways to do just that for our patients. Rectal cancer is a very complex disease. It requires a multidisciplinary team of physicians and nurses to optimize the treatment plan. At Munson we have put together an incredible team and being a part of that is incredible.”
Dr. Hagen’s favorite part of practicing medicine is getting to know his patients and guiding them through their diagnosis and treatment plan. “Receiving a new cancer diagnosis or reviewing a major operation can be frightening. I want each patient to understand their diagnosis and treatment plan fully and be an equal part of the team. I really look forward to helping the community and having a positive impact.”
Dr. Hagen and his wife have traveled all over the country for his medical and surgical training. When they visited northern Michigan and experienced the beautiful outdoors and the friendliness and generosity of the Midwest, they knew it was the perfect place to live and work. In his free time, he likes to try new restaurants, hike, and ski.
