About Miriam J. Rienstra-Bareman
Miriam Rienstra-Bareman, MPH, MD, is a Michigan native from Grand Rapids. After receiving her undergraduate degree from Calvin College, she continued her education at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and came to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City to complete her family medicine residency.
Dr. Rienstra wanted to study medicine because "The human body is incredible -- it can be so resilient and so fragile all at once. Practicing medicine, I get to learn new things about the body all the time."
She enjoys family medicine because there is such a variety of patients and medicine; 2 to 92 year olds and everything from knee injections to blood pressure management. Women’s health is a particular passion, helping women navigate everything from contraception to menopause. "It can be so empowering for patients to learn about their bodies."
Dr. Rienstra-Bareman has 3 cats, 1 dog and 1 husband. She enjoys hiking, lifting, running, birdwatching, and Star Trek.
