Thomas P. Howard, MD

Thomas Howard, MD, PhD, chose a career in radiation oncology because of the opportunity to help his patients understand their disease and treatment options, and help ease any concerns they have about radiation treatment. 

"Taking care of patients who have cancer is an incredible privilege. It is so rewarding to be a part of their team—including their families, friends, communities and other collaborating care professionals—while they face their disease," he says.  

Dr. Howard has a special interest in the recent advancements in stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) that allow providers to precisely target high doses of radiation to control many kinds of cancer. He is excited to help deliver the best radiation treatments available to patients in northern Michigan. 

Dr. Howard earned both his PhD in biological and biomedical sciences, and his Doctor of Medicine, from Harvard-MIT. He completed his residency training at Harvard's Radiation Oncology Program.  

Outside of work, he enjoys exploring the outdoors and spending time with his wife and two rescue dogs.
